Getting to know the Major Scale

Key ( Or Scale )

I’m sure you have watched “The Sound of Music” before. Remember there’s a song called "Do-Re-Mi" in the film?

I suppose all of you have watched it at one time or another in your life singing:"Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti, Do”. Actually this method of singing is called the Solfege System of Singing and it originated from France. It will be useful for us to illustrate how all keys are built.

Now,  the first scale we have created is the C Major Scale which started on the C note. We shall attach the “Do” to the “C” note, “Re” to the “D” note and so on. Then we will get:

Lets look at the C Major Scale again. Notice that all the white notes are used. None of the black keys are used.

Play the Scale

Right hand is often the lead hand when it comes to piano playing, we’re going to begin our first set of exercises with our right hand in the C major position on the keyboard.

First, it’s important to remember how we’ve arranged our fingers into an easy to understand numbered finger system:
