This September is a busy month! Lots of friends’ birthday and wedding fall on this month. Not only that, the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is also known as the Moon festival is around the corner as well.

On this festival, people might be thinking of the Story of Chang-Er, who took the elixir then fly to the Moon and the woodcutter Wu-Gang. Some may think of the 1st man who land on the moon-Neil Armstrong. I wonder would anybody think of the Werewolf… Haha!! But I personally think that, people would rather think of where to get a nice moon cake for this festival!

Mid-Autumn Festival moon cakes habits, has a long history in China.  There are many different versions on the origin of moon cakes from Mid-Autumn Festival. The general version is: During the Tang dynasty, Emperor Tai, Li Shimin ordered his general Li Jing personally led his troops to crusade the North Turkic to put down their repeated violations. Li Jing triumphant return to  Capital on August 15. To celebrate the victory, they had a  great Carnival overnight in the Capital Chang-an. At that time, there was a Tibetan trader specially offer a round cake to the Emperor for the celebration party. Emperor Tai, Li Shimin was very glad, he took over the decoration of gorgeous cake box, took out a round cake, point to the sky and hoist to the moon said: “Hu cake should be invited toad (means this cake should be served to the moon).” Subsequently, a round cake was be distributed to the 100 Officers. Since then, eating moon cakes become the custom of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

I’m not a person who likes moon cake even though my face is like the moon.Haha!! But because of the competition of the market now, we can see all types of nice design moon cake coming out in this festival.

The filling of the traditional moon cake is made from lotus seed paste is surrounded by a relatively thin (2-3 mm) crust and may contain yolks from salted duck eggs.
